Willie Yee Passes

Willie Yee, beloved on-air weatherman for Saskatchewan's popular TV show, Life Without Borders , passed away very suddenly of heart failure on Saturday, July 7, 2007. Willie was one of the favourite regulars who appeared on Life Without Borders broadcast on SCN. Fans would visit Fort Qu'Appelle from all over Canada to have their picture taken with Willie and the yellow bike he rode.

As the weatherman, Willie Yee offered his spontaneous thoughts about the weather as he biked down Company Avenue in the Fort. For twenty years, Will had biked to work no matter what the weather, no matter what the temperature, no matter how many feet of snow had fallen. It was just something he liked to do. Each winter, he put new studs in his bike tires and away he went. But it wasn't just his weather reports people loved. People appreciated Will's kind personality and his relentless positive attitude. Will even found positive things to say about Saskatchewan weather: "Nice and sunny out today.", even if it was 40 below.

News of his death brought comments from across Canada:

"I am so sad about Willie Yee! I'm sure fans across Canada will be too. What a fine, gentle soul he was. I'll miss his weather reports and his bicycle and his diffident but willing way in giving the report. He just seemed to be such a nice person. My condolences to you and to his friends and family."-Marie, North Battleford"

"There will always be only one Willie Yee who will always be remembered..., and I am happy to have a photo of Willie and me at the Hardware store. Samantha, Ontario"

"I'm very sad to hear this. I was just watching Willie the other night and thinking how much I like the man. What a blow..George, New Brunswick"

Funeral services for Willie Yee are at Saint Andrew's United Church, Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, Thursday, July 12 th , 2 p.m., 2007.
